About the Position

The City of Saint Paul Department of Safety & Inspections is hiring an individual to perform full performance inspections on new and existing structures for compliance with and the enforcement of state and local building codes, zoning ordinances, contract specifications, and safety regulations.
Here’s what you can expect to do:
- Investigate complaints regarding violations of building code, issues correction orders, stops work orders, and issues citations as necessary.
- Provide information and interpretation of State Building Code and the Saint Paul Legislative Code to the public, staff, and leadership.

Position Requirements
-
Must meet one of the following:
- Five years of experience performing work as a journey level carpenter.
- Five years of experience performing work as a construction superintendent/construction manager.
- Five years of experience performing engineering work in the design or construction of buildings, at least three years of on-site construction experience.
- Two years of experience reviewing plans and specifications for compliance with building codes.
Must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota Class D Driver’s License or equivalent out of state driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Possession of a limited or full certification as a building official from the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry.
- A minimum of five (5) years inspecting commercial buildings per the MSBC, a delegation agreement from the State of Minnesota stating authority to inspect state buildings and delegated projects, or the ability to obtain a delegation from the State of Minnesota for inspections within one year of employment.
