Building Inspector – Seasonal
Pay: $31.293 per hour
Seasonal/Temporary, Non-Exempt, Not Benefit Eligible
Position lasts for up to 6 months from date of hire

Essential Position Functions
Assist with building code inspections for residential roofing, water heaters, water softeners, windows, decks and siding under the guidance of the City’s Chief Building Official
Assist building inspectors with residential construction inspections.
Maintain accurate records of all permits issued, inspections made, and other actions taken to implement conformance to code requirements.
Perform field inspections to ensure that construction, alteration, and demolition work being done complies with the State Building Code and City ordinances.

Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
One year of experience in building construction trades and/or previous municipal inspection experience.
Valid Driver’s License
Capable of safely performing physical action necessary to conduct inspections at, above, or below ground level of construction sites.

Things that may help you be successful in this role
Successful completion of two or more Building Inspection Technology courses in building construction or construction management.
College, vocational, trade school diploma or equivalent education related to building construction.
Experience with the construction of building, mechanical and plumbing systems.
Building Official Limited License.

Knowledge of:Construction practices in residential construction.
Minnesota State Building Code and local ordinances (or ability to learn).
Safety practices related to building sites and inspections.

Skills in:Reading and writing skills in a professional manner
Using office software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite) and permit management systems (or ability to learn).

Ability to:Communicate effectively, clearly, respectfully, and professionally in English both orally and in writing with the public and colleagues.
Develop and maintain positive and effective working relationships with the general public, contractors, architects, and other employees.

Physical Requirements:Drive City vehicles to construction sites year-round in various weather conditions, including heat, rain, snow, ice, and sub-zero temperatures.
Perform physical tasks encountered during inspections at construction sites, including climbing ladders and walking over rugged terrain including snow and ice covered.
Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distant vision, color vision, and depth perception.
Perform inspections at construction sites in any weather condition.
Performs construction inspections at, above, or below ground levels in buildings under construction.

Working Conditions:Municipal Center hours are 7:30am – 4:00pm, Monday through Friday.
Maximum working hours a week not to exceed 40 hours.
FLSA non-exempt position, seasonal/temporary position lasting up to 6 months from date of hire.
