Topic: 2024 IBC Occupancy Classification

Description: The initial determination for buildings regulated under the IBC is the classification of uses by occupancy. This seminar will focus on the importance of proper occupancy classification as each of the 26 classifications set forth in IBC Chapter 3 will be reviewed as to the anticipated hazards involved. In addition, the concept and application of the incidental use provisions will be discussed.

Topic: Use of Fire Sprinklers and Alarms

Description: This seminar identifies those conditions under which automatic sprinkler protection and/or fire alarm systems are required. The application of the fire area concept will be discussed, along with the varying extent of sprinkler protection required based upon specific situations. In addition, the discussion will address many of the key code conditions under which the presence of an automatic sprinkler system can be used to modify other requirements. Specific topics include: 1) definition and application of fire areas, 2) required sprinkler and alarm protection based on occupancy classification, and 3) optional use of automatic sprinkler systems.
