Nature of Work
The Plans Examiner is primarily responsible for reviewing architectural and minor structural plans, specifications and calculations for the new construction, alteration and/or repair of commercial, industrial, and residential projects to ensure compliance with current building codes and national standards.
This position may also conduct field inspections of new and existing buildings during construction by comparing actual construction to approved plans and resolve discrepancies by providing technical advice and assistance to architects, engineers, contractors and/or designers regarding code compliance.
An employee in this position is primarily responsible for the minor structural and major architectural plans examinations, advising staff in architectural specifications, and meet with designers on code interpretations and at specific times, onsite inspections.
Education and Experience
An Associate’s degree in Architectural Technology, Building Construction Technology, Construction Management Engineering or closely related field from an accredited two-year program AND three (3) years of full-time, progressively responsible architectural, construction management or building inspection, plan check or building permit employment experience.
An equivalent combination of licensure/certification, education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job may also be considered.
